...2023: Pastor Umo Eno Promises to Build Warehouses, Empower Market Women

Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno has promised to build warehouses, grant them soft loans and implement policies that would boost their commercial activities when elected into office in 2023.

Pastor Eno stated this at his endorsement rally and inaugural day celebration by Akwa Ibom Market Women Union held at the Ibom Hall, Uyo.

He disclosed that through his hospitality business, he has related with a good number of market women either as suppliers or other business transactions, adding that the relationship has afforded him the knowledge of the challenges faced by these women.

The governorship hopeful who was accompanied by wife, Pastor (Mrs) Patience, spoke about the place of women in the homes and society generally,noting that empowering a woman translates to empowering the entire family and more, and promised to empower women through different economic programmes.

The visibly elated PDP governorship candidate noted that the needs of the market women will be attended to in line with their peculiarities, stressing that those in the fishing areas of Oro Nation will be provided with canning and other facilities for preservation of their products to curb damages.

He said some markets will be remodeled, while some women will be supported in various ways including micro- credit and urged them to take the message to their different families, units and wards to mobilize and convince everyone to vote for the PDP.

Pastor Eno who is a seasoned entrepreneur, stated that his economic blueprint, the ARISE Agenda is all embracing and the market women will not be left out when he begins to execute his developemental plans.

He appreciated Governor Udom Emmanuel and wife, Dr (Mrs) Martha for the enlightenment, sensitisation and inclusion of women in socio-political activities in the state through appointments at different levels, and assured everyone that this gesture will be furthered especially with the historic election of the first female Deputy Governor in the state come 2023.

The governorship hopeful who has been endorsed by thousands of groups and individuals across the state and beyond, commended the president of the Union, Mrs. Imaobong Akpan for choosing to support the PDP and assured all that the women will not be disappointed.

Earlier in her address, the President of the union, Mrs. Imaobong Akpan appreciated Governor Emmanuel and wife for the platforms given to women in the state to thrive, adding, "I want to say that before, market women were not given a pride of place in the society, but since the emergence of Governor Udom Emmanuel, market women have enjoyed many privileges. That is why we are here today to honour the man that God has ordained to be honoured, the one God has given to Akwa Ibom as the next governor to continue in sustaining the peace and infrastructural renaissance the people of Akwa Ibom have enjoyed in the last seven years plus."

She noted that the aim of the union is to support the government in all ramifications, while government in return will implement policies that will help eradicate hunger and put smiles on the faces of the market women.

She told the candidate: "market women are fully behind you and we will vote for you and all the PDP candidates. It's going to be 5 over 5."

At the event were the Deputy DG of campaigns, Dr. Godwin Ntukeudeh, Secretary General of campaigns, Prince Enobong Uwah, MD/Chief Executive Officer of Hensek Integrated Services, Engr. Uwem Okoko, members of the state Executive Council including Sir Charles Udoh, Hon. Orman Esin, Dr Idongesit Etiebiet, Mrs Enobong Mbobo, and Dr. Ini Adiakpan, member representing Uyo State constituency, Hon. Anietie Eka, a member representing Nsit Atai State Constituency, Hon Mark Eset, Uyo LGA Chairman, Dr. Uwemedimo Udoh, Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Monday Eyo and many others.
