2023 Guber: NUT Throws Weight Behind Umo Eno

Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Akwa Ibom State has thrown its weight behind the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Pastor Umo Eno.

Speaking during a consultation visit to the union at the NUT House, the NUT Chairman, Comrade Edet Emenyi stated that having listened to the economic development blueprint of the PDP governorship candidate, the union was satisfied in his plans to further on the development strides in the state.

In his words, "Now that Pastor Umo Eno has recognized us, we believe strongly that he would be on the side of teachers. Therefore, we the teachers in Akwa Ibom State hereby endorse Pastor Umo Eno, and declare that we are solidly behind him."

The chairman who commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for endorsing the extension of teachers' retirement age, expressed optimism that when Pastor Umo Eno is sworn into office, the welfare of teachers will be topnotch.

In his remarks, Pastor Eno appreciated the union for their warm reception, stating that his visit was to consult and share ideas with them on possible ways to further on educational development in the state.

He stated that if elected in the forthcoming election, his administration would build model technical schools to equip students with basic skills that would enable them earn a living even without a higher education.

The governorship hopeful stated that educational advancement is a focal area in his economic development blueprint, the ARISE Agenda, and promised that the free and compulsory education policy currently running in the state would be furthered with other components including; uniforms and shoes.

Pastor Eno who emphasized on the all important roles of teachers in the society, assured that his administration would embark on training and retraining of teachers as well as catering for their welfare through the ARISE Agenda.
