Updating Umo Eno's AKBC on DStv Plan
The Akwa Ibom State Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Pastor Umo Eno says he will ensure the Akwa Ibom State Broadcasting Corporation Television, AKBC, gets a channel on Multichoice DStv if elected.
That statement was like a tsunami that swept through the State. It now seems like he opened a Pandora box. The opposition are spitting venom and fire. AKBC TV has been mercilessly dragged around since then and the few naysayers in the name of politics are talking down on Pastor Umo Eno.
My Friend Clement Warrie aptly captured the negative energy invested into opposing the plan . Warrie wrote: "Somehow, the idea of having AKBC on DSTV is repugnant to Akwa Ibom person. How small we have become in the name of politics or is it ignorance?
Meanwhile, Channels TV is on DSTV, so is AIT, ARISE, NTA, Lagos TV ONMAX, Plus TV Africa CHANNELS, Arewa Galaxy TV, LAGOS TV, MiTV, NTA News, NTA Parliament, OGTV, SILVERBIRD, Sunna TV , TVC News Nigeria, WAP TV, Wazobia etc. These are all local channels. Who do us like this?"
I couldn't agree more with Clement Warrie. There's something fundamentally wrong when politics blindside's people from seeing, much more, take advantage of opportunities. Politics shouldn't be about pettiness.
Pastor Umo Eno is pregnant with vision. He is prepared to lead and combined the Obong Akpan Isemin's disdain for 'Etok syndrome' as he believes in Governor Udom Emmanuel's Dakkada creed.
Having AKBC on DStv is not a stroll in the park but it is a great move fraught with opportunities for the youths and our people in general.
AKBC meets the basics to bid for a channel on DStv. The Station is tried and tested and has a ready, proven viewership. AKBC has made financial and technical sense. They have a business strategy that has kept the station going over the years albeit with State Government support. Their satellite capacity is not in doubt and they offer what their customers want. You call it obituary, but this is proof of advertising capacity.
AKBC TV can tick 70% of what is required to present a proposal for the DStv Content Team to consider. Their content and programming may not be very many but they're rich and diverse.
That big dream of Pastor Umo Eno is possible and achievable. If you consider how much the State Government expends in sponsoring live or recorded programmes on some DStv stations annually, you will understand that, it is more than enough to fix a channel schedule on DStv itself.
While it plugs the hole of capital flight on sponsored programmes , a floodgate of jobs for producers, content creators, artistes, presenters, news casters, script writers, video editors, graphics designer's, engineer's, software developers, stage hands, camera men, reporters, news editors, studio engineers and so much more will be employed.
Can we therefore support Pastor Umo Eno and elect him Governor of Akwa Ibom State to implement this dream?
Vote for pastor Umo Eno, vote for a man who is ready for tomorrow.
